More details soon!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #950000;\">In August,\u00a0we heard from Sabrina Davis, Fall River Organizer for the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #950000;\" href=\"https:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?WatershedActionAllia\/f0f61ef13f\/b21d4e13ae\/3df95bba42\"><span style=\"color: #0000f2;\">Coalition for Social Justice<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0She spoke about state environmental justice legislation, projects in New Bedford and Fall River addressing environmental and social inequities, and suggestions for action and better communication.\u00a0You can hear the recording of her presentation\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000f2;\"><a style=\"color: #0000f2;\" href=\"https:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?WatershedActionAllia\/f0f61ef13f\/b21d4e13ae\/6878255015\">here<\/a><\/span>. The journey of state environmental justice legislation from conception to codification has been arduous and is not yet complete&#8230; but it is close! We&#8217;ve written a concise overview of it that is available on our\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000f2;\"><a style=\"color: #0000f2;\" href=\"https:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?WatershedActionAllia\/f0f61ef13f\/b21d4e13ae\/b4b4babf2e\">learn-along<\/a><\/span>\u00a0page.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #950000;\">Every month at our member meetings WAA members study and discuss environmental justice topics. We\u00a0 hear from representatives of communities historically underrepresented in watershed associations or in discussions about environmental health and protection, including Native Americans, communities of color, people with disabilities and those with low income, to name a few. Many of these communities are inequitably harmed by impacts to the environment while receiving fewer benefits associated with a healthy environment, such as clean drinking water and access to water recreation.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #950000;\">In July,\u00a0we were inspired by an panel of talented young women from the City of Brockton.\u00a0<a style=\"color: #950000;\" href=\"https:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?WatershedActionAllia\/f0f61ef13f\/b21d4e13ae\/7f14e19a91\"><span style=\"color: #0000f2;\">Watch the video<\/span>.<\/a>\u00a0Mentored\u00a0in the Massachusetts <span style=\"color: #0000f2;\">Envirothon<\/span>\u00a0by Wildlands Trust Outreach and Education Manager, Rachel\u00a0Calderara, and positively affected by their experiences, these urban residents continued on to higher education in the environment, science and health. The panel spoke to WAA members at our July meeting, sharing their personal stories and factors that led to their engagement in nature and environmental conservation, factors that you can incorporate into your own work, whether it be professional, volunteer or personal. It&#8217;s all captured in our\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000f2;\"><a style=\"color: #0000f2;\" href=\"https:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?WatershedActionAllia\/f0f61ef13f\/b21d4e13ae\/5a0c3d1248\">learn-along<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1259 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dodgemillmuseum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/D-SE-WATERSHED-Coalition-for-Social-Justice-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #950000;\">In June,\u00a0we discussed the relationship between environmental justice and racism and issued a\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000f2;\"><a style=\"color: #0000f2;\" href=\"https:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?WatershedActionAllia\/f0f61ef13f\/b21d4e13ae\/7949aa65e9\">statement<\/a><\/span>\u00a0about our commitment to working for environmental justice. We posted a short video and some excellent curated readings for you to<span style=\"color: #0000f2;\">\u00a0<a style=\"color: #0000f2;\" href=\"https:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?WatershedActionAllia\/f0f61ef13f\/b21d4e13ae\/6be89e0811\">learn along<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>with us.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #950000;\">In May, Melissa Ferretti, the president of the Herring\u00a0Po\u00a0nd Wampanoag Tribe located in Plymouth spoke to us at our meeting.<span style=\"color: #0000f2;\">\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"color: #950000;\" href=\"https:\/\/cts.vresp.com\/c\/?WatershedActionAllia\/f0f61ef13f\/b21d4e13ae\/d7c58cfafd\"><span style=\"color: #0000f2;\">Read<\/span>\u00a0<\/a>about Ferretti and her vision as president, how to speak respectfully about Native Americans, and about traditional ecological knowledge and what this can teach other cultures.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #950000;\">Each month we will post more short readings, recommended websites, videos, and other materials to\u00a0expand your knowledge of environmental justice and perspectives on diversity, equity and inclusion in preparation\u00a0for our March 2021 virtual event.
