{"id":1432,"date":"2020-11-17T16:43:53","date_gmt":"2020-11-17T16:43:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dodgemillmuseum.com\/?p=1432"},"modified":"2020-11-17T16:43:53","modified_gmt":"2020-11-17T16:43:53","slug":"westport-watershed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dodgemillmuseum.com\/?p=1432","title":{"rendered":"WESTPORT WATERSHED"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #00004e;\">&#8220;WAYERSHED RAMBLES&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000f2;\">BY DON DOUCETTE<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1433 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dodgemillmuseum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/C-DON-D-15e97066b24de1bae98ac285994edb95214de62b11e17f11e5f119a602d41510-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #00004e;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Our local watershed adventures led us to the Westport River Watershed in Westport, Massachusetts this afternoon.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #00004e;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The Westport River Watershed has remained a pleasing watershed environment to explore in southeastern coastal Massachusetts and consists of two main branch tributaries &#8211; the smaller west brach gathers in nearby Adamsville, Rhode Island while the larger East Branch is an extension of the nearby Copicut Reservoir and its Shingle River extension transitioning into the Westport River East Branch south of U.S. Route 6.\u00a0\u00a0Both branches become the tidal Westport River estuary flowing to sea between Buzzard&#8217;s Bay and Rhode Island Sound.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1434 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/dodgemillmuseum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/C-DON-East_Branch_Westport_River_Westport_MA-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #00004e;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Westport Point remains the historic and perennial hub of maritime industries long associated with Westport Harbor &#8211; also known as PAQUACHUCK by the local Indian people.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #00004e;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The Town of Westport was once known for its prolific dairy production during past years &#8211; prized for a period of local history as the largest milk producing community in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #00004e;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Two small local cheese producers exist today and their cottage industry cheese products are available at Lee&#8217;s Supermarket in Westport, Massachusetts.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #00004e;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">ADAMSVILLE CHEDDER is a West Branch country favorite and nearby, SHY BROTHERS FARM produce a unique thimble-sized product called HANNAHBELLS. Today, we \u00a0purchased the lavender bud infused HANNAHBELLS rendition &#8211; a creamy little bite-size cheese with a hint of lavender essence.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #00004e;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Two tiny Westport River tributary brooks are curiously named &#8211; BREAD and CHEESE BROOK and MOUSE MILL BROOK.
