We are thrilled to introduce the inaugural NBAM Community Artist in Residence\u2026.Dawn Spears!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Dawn Spears (Narragansett\/Choctaw) is a doll maker, photographer, multimedia artist, who uses cultural symbolism and the vibrant colors of our natural world as inspiration for her work. Visit an exhibition of Dawn\u2019s work at the museum and check our social media every Friday for posts from Dawn herself.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

NBAM\u2019s CAIR Program creates an access point for community members to engage more deeply with NBAM and the Downtown Seaport Cultural District. The Program offers local artists space, time, and resources to develop their work. Local organizations nominate CAIR artists. Spears is nominated by the\u00a0Tomaquag Museum<\/a><\/span>\u00a0, with the residency sponsored by the\u00a0New Bedford Whaling National\u00a0Historical Park<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Tomaquag Museum is an Indigenous museum in Exeter, Rhode Island that is dedicated to educating the public and promotes thoughtful dialogue regarding Indigenous history, culture, arts, and Mother Earth, and connects to Native issues of today.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Through their Indigenous Empowerment Network, they work to support Indigenous artists, youth, and community through advocacy, education, small business development, and cultural continuation.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
