In 1890 the small industrial town of Brockton, on Main Street is where the history of Santa, his red suit and a snowy white beard was created by James Edgar, a department store owner.

Brockton is the home of the very first Department Store Santa? In 1890 in our small industrial town of Brockton, on Main Street is where the history of Santa, his red suit and a snowy white beard was created.

James Edgar, a department store owner who loved children made history by creating a red suit from the images of a man named Thomas Nast. It was the largest Santa gathering of the world.

In keeping with tradition, Brockton will honor James Edgar at Greater Brockton’s 23rd Annual Holiday Parade.

Mission: We set a new world record for the most Santa hats in one place.
