ANCIENT BUCKLIN BROOK WATERSHED REDISCOVERED
TEN MILE RIVER
In 1995 when I walked with Mark Benoit the length of the Ten Mile River, I remember conversing several times that we were the only people in our watershed doing what we were doing and as the world buzzed around us going about daily pursuits, we pressed on to complete our two day odyssey virtually unnoticed and as a result, experienced fulfillment for our effort.
We are a few this week having a similar experience as we search for our lost brook and seriously play peek-a-boo with the rare remnant portions. Our local culture during the years has picked the meat from the bones as we modern pioneers educate ourselves and carry on telling this pathetic story in its many parts.
May God give us the unction and will to press on with this environmental and historic enlightenment. Today, the forgotten and overlooked Bucklin Brook Watershed, a small westward next door cousin with the Ten Mile River Watershed, is as a Phoenix rising from the ashes.
